The freshwater Lake Ba Be is the only significant natural upland lake in the North of Viet Nam. From Thai Nguyen City, capital of Bac Thai province, you drive along Highway 3 to the towns of Bac Can and Phu Thong. After another 16 km you will arrive at Ba Be Lake which is about 225 km from Hanoi. Ba Be is some 145m above sea level, 8 km long, 3 km wide and about 20-30m deep.
North West - East Vietnam adventure 14 days
 
Day 01: Ha Noi – Mai Chau Our tour guide picks us up at the hotel in Ha Noi and drives us west, towards Hoa Binh province. This scenic area is home to many ethnic minority groups including the Dzao, Muong and Thai. We visit some villages en-route to the beautiful valley of Mai Chau. We pass some magnificent look-out points which offer us a panoramic view of the valley. In the afternoon we arrive in Pom Koong, a village of the White Thai people who inhabit the major part of the area. During the evening, we enjoy a traditional dance and drink Ruou Can, a local rice wine. We have dinner and spend the night in the houses of the local people. Tam Coc - Bich Dong or Hoa Lu
 
Hoa Lu was the ancient capital of Vietnam during 10th century. The two kings ( Dinh & Le ) had chosen this place for its advantages in preventing enemies. In Hoa Lu, you will see two temples worship the two kings, those temples were first built in 15th century, during the war time, they were all destroyed, then the people live in this area rebuilt them in 17th cent with the same structure - imperial palace structure. You will also see the King Dinh‘s tomb on top of one mountain & when you are there, you can see the whole scenery of the ancient capital. Recently, the Vietnamese archaeologists has found the track of the palace that had been covered up by the war. The small bamboo craft goes along a fresh stream in the rice field and around the mountains in a peaceful countryside with you on it, that is Tam Coc - " Ha Long Bay on the rice field". You go throughout the mountains on such boat by natural made tunnels.

Quan Lan Island stretch toward East – West from the foot of Vân Ðon Range to the Gót Mount with many high mountains to the east barring waves and winds, protect the villages. The island is situated on an important navigation route that connects China, Japan, Thailand and Philippines to Vietnam. Along two sides of the island are tens kilometres of sand beaches.
